ABOUT THE SITE…..
For us, the debate about whether the climate is warming and what are the primary causes of such climate change is over. as the current situation has become far more ominous and dire than before. On this site, we try to cover many sectors of all the countries found on this planet- society, economy, governance, equity, nationalism, etc. and how they interact with the climate, biosphere and so forth. Nothing is independent from the other, rather all these aspects interact with others in a constant dynamic that is currently badly out of balance. Therefore this site attempts to deal with all the interconnected issues that affect the current climate and ecological crises and what we can do about them.
To begin, there are six basic categories located in the band below the Haggard Earth title block each with a number of dropdowns, each one one them will contain articles, studies, reports, etc. from many different environmental and ecologival sources sources. It's important to note that all of the postings will be from time to time topped up with new ones so as to keep the website updated and current. Furthermore by opening a posting you will in no way be commiting to receive emails and promotions from that site, unless you decide that you wish to receive information or emails from them.
URBAN AND TRANSPORT, which in turn has three dropdowns
Infrastructure Includes the entire built structures of the city and the interconnecting web that connects them all eg, energy conduits, sewers ,roads water, paths, etc
Transportation Regional rapid transit and distribution, interstate/provincial transportation and air from local, regional and national to international
eportsENERGY AND RESOURCES which in turn has three dropdowns
Renewables Issues dealing with Solar, Wind, Hydro, Green Hydrogen, Thermal , etc.
Carbon-based Resources Such resources as plastic, concrete, engineered wood, steel, etc.
Alternative Energy Sources Issues dealing with Nuclear, Blue Hydrogen, and the like
Fossil Fuels Oil, gas, LNG, and coal
SOCIO-ECONOMIC & CONFLICT, which in turn has five dropdowns
Social-Political and Governance Issues dealing with government actions, treatises on governance, political systems, current situations, etc
Humanitarian Issues dealing with underdeveloped countries, lack of resources, hunger, migration and the like l
Equity and Health Issues dealing with social equity and prejudicial actions of governments (eg. the Blacks and Coloureds in the USA), racial prejudice, voting rights, climate-induced health impacts (eg. excessive heat and pollution), plagues, and the like.
Economic & Corporate Issues dealing with Corporate dominance and government favouritism, unions, corporate spin and the like. .
Consumerism and Growth Issues dealing with constant growth, the dominance of the marketplace, endless cycle of buying and disposal, economies that are steady-state, alternate humanistic societies that reject GDP as a dominant parameter, etc.
ENVIRONMENT, which in turn has eight dropdowns
Climate Crisis All the issues dealing with the enormous negative effects of climate change
Climate Issues The important concepts that deal with understanding Climate Change, eg. Tipping Points, Carbon Budget, etc.
Global Heating The not-so-slow rise in temperature due to increasing CO2 in the atmosphere and all of its impacts
Positive Action and Advocacy ctions taken by governments, NGOs, Institutions , Universities, the UN, etc. to help solve this mess we’re in.
Ecology and Biodiversity Issues such as biodiversity, species extinction related to flora and fauna, successes gained, etc.
Land, Water, Agriculture and Air Issues dealing with droughts, rivers floods, lakes, forests and their relation to the atmmosphere
Oceans and Ice Issues dealing with oceans, glaciers, ice sheets (eg. Greenland & Antarctica), sea ice, and shipping
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Science Scientific reports, advances, studies and articles relating to all the broad issues that relate to Climate Change
Technology Tthe many green advances that are being made with regard to solar, wind, batteries, manufacturing, steel, concrete, etc
Some other features: On the right side of the home page, there are ticker-tape headlines that indicate the most recent articles that have been posted in the main categories and drop downs
The four prominent rectangles in the centre of the homepage contain permanent themes within which display various environmental topics to explore….in order from the top……..
1. ENROADS simulator.....is a global model that focuses on how changes in the energy, economic, and public policy systems could affect greenhouse gas emissions and climate outcomes. The simulator is powered by such inputs as delayed action times, progress ratios, price sensitivities, the use-intensity of fossil fuel energy sources, the efficiency of their use, etc. En-ROADS stands for Energy Rapid Overview and Decision-Support. It is used primarily to set policy but is available to the public- you can set any of the many inputs and then see how the climate graph adjusts to your choices. Check out this short video: How to Navigate EnRoads
2. Climate Bullets- Facts and Figures
Google GoogleEarth's Timelapse feature provides a bird's eye view of nearly four decades of man-made planetary transformation driven by our fossil fuel-based constant growth corporate/consumer economy This new graphic tool was developed by a desire to show us the complex issues of climate change graphically in a way that words alone cannot effectively communicate. Watch this timelapse which will vividly illustrate how rapidly certain regions of the planet have been transformed by society's encroachment on the natural landscape. Watch how sea ice in Greenland has melted as the planet warms, contributing to global sea-level rise; how deforestation in the Amazon has intensified in the past 20 years; how the Aral Sea has dried up to a fraction of its size since the early 2000s; how decades of bushfires have impacted Yellabinna, Australia. There are skylines that pop up seemingly overnight in Naypyitaw, Myanmar, and Dubai, UAE, alluding to the environmental costs of rapid urbanization. Watch this seven-minute video and see how global heating has happened over the years, as well as other graphics and related topics.
Interactive maps and diagrams that are interesting to play with.
3. Haggard Herald
A longer and comprehensive article and probably a second related one for your further investigation These will rotoate every two weeks or so.weeks
Headliner A link to various other, timely articles
4. Climate nuggets, facts, figures, definitions This has permanently displayed large environmental sites which are continuously being updated
__________
On the left of these rectangles is the Library, various subject in blue boxes
Doughnuts A graphically interesting way to represent an ecologically sensitive way to build a responsible and equitable society whichis currently being adopted by a few cities and regions mainly in Europe
Videos All sorts of short videos’ based on all the subjects covered by this site
Organizations There are many of the great NGOs, institutions, think tanks, research entities, universities, advocacy groups and even responsible corporations that have provided the site with valuable information. And not to be missed are all the great media outlets in North America and the EU with special kudos to the Guardian.
